About the Big Apple Contest: while "Big Apples" were a formation of dancing in a circle to moves called by a leader, "The Big Apple Contest" (which most people shorten to just The Big Apple) is a solo jazz routine choreographed by the legendary Frankie Manning during the late 1930s and can be seen in the film "Keep Punching" - check out the clip below, colorised from the original film in 1939. If you listen closely, you can here Frankie calling out the moves to the dancers in the circle.
We'll learn the routine in two parts - come along and have some fun with us :)

South West Swing acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and dance, Wardandi boodja, the land of the Saltwater people. We acknowledge their continuing connection to land, sea, and culture and pay respect to all members of Aboriginal communities, their elders past, present, and emerging.
